1-The Higher National Certificate

In accordance with the recommendations made by the major companies and establishments in Bahrain, and based on the findings of the field survey on the requirements of the local labour market, it was concluded that there is great demand on qualified Bahraini technicians in the field of Air-Conditioning Engineering, telecommunication and Auto Engineering.

For this reason, the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education took the initiative to introduce new programmes aiming at training candidates to obtain the HNC and hence providing the labour market with well trained Bahraini technicians in the three above mentioned fields of specialization.

These programmes have been designed in coordination with the Edexcel and the participation of many big local companies and establishments.

Candidates joining these programmes will have the opportunity to benefit from the facilities available at Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology.

Programme Beneficiaries

The HNC programmes have been specially designed for those who have obtained the General Secondary Certificate from the Technical or Science route and are currently working in the field of Air-Conditioning Engineering, Telecommunication or Auto Engineering in the private or the public sector.

Programme Characteristics

1. Certificates awarded to successful candidates are internationally accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authorities and this gives candidates the opportunity to proceed to further education in the same field of specialization.
2.  Contents of these programmes fulfill the theoretical as well as the practical needs recommended by the local and regional companies and establishments.
3. The programmes are delivered in units, giving candidates flexibility to schedule their study plans to be in accordance with their own circumstances. Each candidate will have his own record in which achieved units are documented.
4. The possibility for evening full time attendance to give candidates the chance to complete the programme in one year.
5. The opportunity for candidates to make use of the unique technical facilities and the latest in technology available in the workshops, laboratories and the learning resource centres at Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology.
6. Technical support is provided through the internet, giving candidates the chance to be in direct contact with both the teaching staff and the programme supervisors.
7. The programmes are held in the evening and candidates can make use of the cafeteria open during the break.

Entry Requirements

1. Obtaining the Secondary General Certificate (Scientific or Technical Route)
2. Sitting the English language placement Exam.
3. Taking the Ability and aptitude test.
4. Having a personal interview.

2-The Higher National Diploma (HND)

          In the light of the success achieved with the first batch joining the HNC programmes at Shaikh Khalifa Institute of Technology, many employers from the private and public sectors showed interested to enroll their employees in the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. The Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education had taken the necessary arrangements to run the HND programmes in the field of Air-Conditioning Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering and Auto Engineering. The HND is a link which enables learners to proceed towards further education to obtain the B.S in the same field of education.
The HND programmes are handled by experienced highly qualified instructors. The study plan is a combination of theoretical study and practical study including project work. To join one of the HND programmes, a candidate should have obtained the HNC certificate.
